I have currently my home insurance for dwelling with limit of 370K. Insurance company's estimate to rebuild the house is 230K. According to them I am over-insuring myself. However, my mortgage company wants me to keep the insurance upto or higher than loan amount. Why would they want that ? And if I keep ( in confidence with the mortgage company) lower amount what complications in future can happen?

I am now, however looking into buying a Golf which would cost me around 950 to insure if I was to start the policy from scratch. My question is if I go on to insure my Peugeot for 800, if I buy a Golf say, a month, afterwards will it cost me a lot more to change the car over or will it just be like the diference between the 2 quotes for a year? Hey Im 22 and dont have dental insurance. Ive had a bad cavity for about 2 years and off and on gives a really intense pain. The history of Health Insurance is that employers started offering it as a benefit as a way to entice employees to work for them. Prior to the Affordable Health Care Act, the only real choice consumers had was to go with whatever their HR Director, or Benefits Director, said they could have. I've wondered for a long time, why does health insurance not work like car insurance, for example. Why not completely seperate the relationship between Health Insurance providers and Employers and let people get Insurance from whomever they choose? That way, if you change jobs you can just keep your insurance. If your insurance company is screwing you over then you can go somewhere else? I am not a finance or economics expert. Can someone please explain to me why we don't severe the dependency between employers and health insurance?

Pre-Existing Conditions health insurance...?

I've had epilepsy since I was 5 years old, I'm now 24. I came across a comment on a website a few minutes ago about there being some kind of federal law where it's ILLEGAL to deny someone coverage because they may be in poor health, overweight, etc... aka having a pre-existing condition . If this is true about there being a law AGAINST it, why are SO MANY health insurance companies allowed to deny people w/ pre-existing conditions right off the bat? There are THOUSAND upon thousands, if not MILLIONS, of people in the U.S that have some kind of pre-existing condition, whether minor or major. So wouldn't that mean that there are THOUSANDS of insurance companies that are running their business illegally & breaking the law? I mean, breaking a state law is one thing, but a FEDERAL law is a pretty big deal!! Washington makes such a big deal about how so many people in our country don't have health insurance & they say it's because people can't afford it . But I think the REAL reason is that because MOST of those people have a pre-existing condition & they're getting thrown to the curb because of it... Comments on this???

The business I have worked at for 3 years has just announced they are shutting their doors at the end of the month. I am only 17 but have been told that I am still able to apply for unemployment benefits...which I know next to nothing about. Basically, I've only worked 10-20 hours a week for a wage slightly above minimum. It's just been a part time job for me since I'm a student and involved in several sports and challenging classes.
